Spicing Up The bathroom With A Shower Rod

Defined Tag: Shower Rods.
I’m sure that everyone knows what shower rods are and what they’re used for, but what you may not know is the range of shapes, styles and colors that are readily available for hanging your shower curtains. While many showers come with glass enclosures today, it’s not always easy to find something suitable for an older home that is functional and attractive.
If you’ve got an old-fashioned claw-foot style tub for example, you may need to use a shower ring rather than a rod. These normally hang from the bathroom ceiling and allow you to hang a shower curtain complete around the perimeter of the tub. Shower rings are available in oval and circular rings to fit any size tub.
If your tub or shower is built-in, then you would need to purchase one or more rods to complete the enclosure. These are available in a variety of shapes – curved, straight, L or U shaped among others. You can even find neo angle style rods to fit modern walk-in showers if needed.
With the exception of a straight shower rod, you’ll need to install a bracket at two or more locations in the shower to support the rod. Most manufacturers supply matching brackets, although they are often sold separately as accessories. Straight shower rods by the way can often be a simple spring-loaded rod that will fit most narrow spaces.
Safety Tip: A shower rod is not intended to be used as a grab or supporting bar. They are meant to support the weight of a damp, cloth curtain and little else.
These days it’s even possible to obtain other matching accessories such as soap dishes, cup and toothbrush holders, toilet paper dispensers, etc., all color coordinated to match your shower rods design. For the best selection, it’s advisable to visit numerous bath shops as choices are often limited to the manufacturers the shop represents.
